Hello everyone, this is Jonah, your English cycling guide at Oasa Mobility Station.

In my last article, I highlighted the beauty of Mt. Kake. Today, I’m excited to introduce you to another wonderful destination in Oasa: Ai no Sato Herb Garden. This serene spot is perfect for relaxation, delicious food, and enjoying the tranquil beauty of nature.

Why Ai no Sato is a Must-Visit:

A wide field filled with blooming chamomiles, their small white flowers contrasting beautifully against the lush green plants.
A stunning field of chamomiles, like white dots scattered across an ocean of green.
  • A Natural Haven: Ai no Sato is managed by the Yamanes, who embraced country life over 20 years ago after moving from Hiroshima City. Their 40,000-square-meter (about 10 acres) garden is entirely pesticide-free, reflecting their commitment to natural farming. This dedication ensures that everything grown here—vegetables, flowers, and trees—is pure and free from chemicals.

  • Delicious, Fresh Food: The Yamanes grow most of the vegetables and edible flowers served at Ai no Sato. Enjoy a delightful meal in their restaurant, where you can savor exceptional seasonal tempura and homemade small dishes made from fresh, seasonal ingredients. My personal recommendation is to enjoy their refreshing herb tea after lunch. They also offer a vegan menu upon advance request, which has been well received by many of my tour guests.

  • Seasonal Splendor: Ai no Sato offers a stunning array of seasonal experiences. In spring, the cherry blossoms paint the landscape with delicate pink hues. Early summer reveals vibrant fields of chamomiles and lavenders, perfect for a leisurely stroll or a refreshing tea made from freshly picked chamomiles. As autumn arrives, the garden transforms with opportunities for chestnut picking and harvesting daikon radishes. Even in winter, while the garden is closed for the season, the surrounding landscape remains a serene and tranquil sight. Each season provides a unique chance to immerse yourself in the evolving beauty of Ai no Sato and enjoy nature’s splendor.

  • A Peaceful Retreat: Beyond its beauty and food, Ai no Sato offers a peaceful escape. The garden's calm environment, coupled with the Yamanes’ warm hospitality, makes it an ideal spot to unwind. It’s a perfect complement to your visit to Oasa, providing a place where nature and hospitality come together beautifully. Throughout the year, you can enjoy various activities like relaxing strolls, painting, or capturing the scenic landscapes in photographs.
